Artificial Intelligence + Human Rights

2019 / 2020 / 2021

Over three consecutive years, Espai Societat Oberta organized a cycle of workshops and debates on ethics, technology, and human rights. The brief was to create a visual identity system that would accompany all three editions with coherence, renewing itself each year through a main illustration that reflected the specific focus of each cycle: the digital future (El Futur Ja És Aquí, 2019), a critical analysis of AI (Intel·igència Artificial i Drets Humans, 2020), and its impact on social justice and organizations (Riscos i Oportunitats per als Drets Humans, 2021).

The first cycle posed an open question: how can digital technology become an ally of human rights? The art direction started from that tension between opportunity and threat, building an identity that invited audiences to look at the future without naivety or catastrophism.

The second cycle went deeper into automated decision-making and its risks: racist algorithms, systems that discriminate without accountability. The visual identity evolved to hold more uncomfortable questions, with a graphic conceptualization that amplified the political urgency of the debate.

Intel·ligència Artificial (2021)

The third cycle closed the arc by addressing social organizations directly: how to incorporate a digital perspective into rights advocacy, and what to make of emerging AI legislation. The visual identity accompanied that shift toward the practical and the collective.

Three editions sustained by the same visual system —colors, typography, graphic elements— where the main illustration acts as a living piece that renews each year to reflect the growing depth of the debate. A social communication project that used design as an activist tool over three consecutive years.
