La protesta de la CNTE en el Zócalo 2025

I went for a bit to the CNTE protest at the Zócalo and it left me thinking about a few things:

  1. While institutional politics manages the symptoms of an unsustainable system, other possibilities lie in grassroots organization—especially when it can put bodies on the line to interrupt production. And that’s uncomfortable, because it reveals how violently unequal everyday life is.
  2. Sooner or later, we’ll have to organize around our pensions too. We’ll see how we manage…
  3. The repeal of the ISSSTE law is urgent.
  4. Politics isn’t in the ballot boxes. The personal is political.
  5. I asked for permission to take photos and even to get close to the stage, and everyone was very kind.
  6. I asked a few street vendors at random if they had come with the CNTE, and they said yes—they were supporting. I think their coordination and organizing is impressive. Honestly, nothing seems harder in this world than organizing in community or collectively.
  7. Celebration is resistance. Militancy can also be joyful…
